Where are you and how fast are you going? That's what GPS sensors and interfaces are ideal for telling you. We're all familiar with the 1 Hz GPS-based navigation systems found in cars, boats, and hand-held systems, but if you increase the speed and accuracy, GPS can also be used for dynamic braking and handling vehicle testing applications.
Fast GPS can replace the old fashioned "fifth wheel" sensor used to test cars, as well as the more modern optical/digial fifth wheels, in many applications. But that's just the beginning. Visit Dewetrons website and download the datasheet and application notes to get the full picture of the DEWE-VGPS-200C, the fastest commercially available GPS sensor that Dewtron knows of!
On Top Gear (a BBC Television show) they tested the Bugatti Veyron on a closed track up to 250 MPH (407 kph!). Dewetron's DEWE-VGPS-200 sensor was shown countless times in this 8 minute presentation!
DEWE-VGPS-200
The DEWE-VGPS-200C outputs 200 speed & distance updates each second, plus 20 Hz computer outputs (RS232, USB and CAN) of speed, distance, acceleration, latitude, longitude, elevation, UTC, and more. Also includes analog speed and distance outputs so you can use it with other data acquisition systems.
Key points:
High speed GPS based system for speed and displacement. The VGPS-200-C is the first available GPS based speed and displacement sensor with 200 Hz update rate. The result of the combination of high precision GPS data acquisition and high calculation performance is a GPS based speed sensor with the lowest latency time of around 12 msec at analog and speed output. Using the unique PPS-SYNCH in DEWESoft also high accuracy time correlation between any additional signal source (CAN, analog, video …) is guaranteed even if VGPS-200-C is connected via USB or RS-232 interface.
The programmable output sensitivity for speed and displacement together with online supervision of GPS signal quality gives the VPGS-200-C the possibility for direct replacement with any other contactless speed sensor.
