• 64 to 128 serial ports from one Sun® SPARC® SBus slot
• Field expandable up to 128 ports in 16-port increments
• Supports SPARC Solaris Rev. 2.6, 7, and 8
• Asynchronous data transfer rates up to 115.2 kbps, simultaneously on all ports
• Interface options include:
• RS-232 with DB-25 or RJ-45 connectors
• RS-422 RS-485 with DB-25 connectors via an external breakout box
• On-board hardware (out of band) and software (in band) flow control on all ports assures data integrity

The Nova 1600SE/SBox 1000 units are ideal for connecting moderate asynchronous, moderate throughput serial devices, such as:

The Nova 1600SE Multiport is a 16-port asynchronous serial communications controller that enables up to 16 serial devices to be connected from a single Sun SPARC system SBus slot. The scalable SBox 1000 Expansion Chassis utilizes Nova 1600SE serial controllers to provide up to 128 serial connections from a single Sun SPARC host SBus slot. Additional Nova 1600SE serial controller cards can be added to an SBox 1000 in the field (in multiples of 16 ports up to a maximum of 128 ports). The Nova 1600SE and the SBox 1000 support asynchronous data transfer rates up to 115.2 kbps, simultaneously on all ports.

The Nova 1600SE/SBox 1000 is compatible with any SPARC workstation or server with SBus running Solaris 2.6, 7, or 8.
