Stockwell Elastomerics announces the availability of closed-cell fluorosilicone sponge rubber meeting AMS 3323, Class 2 (medium density). Noting an increase in requests for fluid-resistant gasketing, the company submitted St. Gobain's R10490-M fluorosilicone to an independent lab for testing.
Fluorosilicone (fluorinated silicone rubber) has many of the basic properties of silicone rubber, such as resilience, high/low temperature stability, and resistance to aging and degradation from sunlight and ozone. The aerospace industry has many uses for fluorosilicone compounds as they resist the effects jet fuel, hydraulic fluids and special coolant fluids such as Coolanol and PAO. Fluorosilicone sponge gaskets and cushioning pads may be supplied in die-cut and water-jet configurations.
The company maintains an inventory of R10490-M medium density closed cell fluorosilicone sponge in .032˝, .062˝, and .125˝ thickness – available with high-strength acrylic adhesive backings. Fluorosilicone sponge gaskets and cushioning pads may be supplied in die cut and water jet configurations. Pads and gaskets in thickness .188˝ or greater are provided by laminating layers using a flexible fluorosilicone based adhesive.
Stockwell Elastomeric's core competence is the fabrication and molding of silicone rubber and similar high performance elastomers. Their in-house capabilities include custom molding and die cutting, and have recently taken on water-jet cutting. Many of Stockwell's customers take advantage of water jet cutting for fast turn prototypes and initial production. Stockwell Elastomerics offers design assistance, and feasibility review. Electronic files should be sent in dxf, dwg, or IGES format.
