What Is GlobalSpec?
GlobalSpec is the leading specialized search engine and information resource for the engineering community. Engineers and technical professionals regularly use GlobalSpec in their work process to search for and locate products and services, learn about suppliers and access comprehensive technical content on application notes, standards, materials, patents, specifications, designs and more.
Whether it's our development of The Engineering Web, our proprietary search-by-specification technology or our exclusive access to the hidden Web, GlobalSpec places the information engineers and technical professionals need at their fingertips - when they need it - helping them to be more productive.
Tips on Product Searching
- There are two ways to find products on GlobalSpec. You can browse for them using the "Products & Catalogs" links on the Home Page, or you can enter a keyword in the "Find Box", while limiting your search to "Products & Suppliers" using the dropdown menu located next to the "Find Box". Browsing allows you to see the breadth of product areas within a given product category, before narrowing down; while using the "Find Box" will allow you to quickly constrain your search using keywords.
- Once you have conducted a successful search, you will be presented with a List of Companies that make the products or components that you specified. Companies that are bolded have digital catalogs on GlobalSpec. You can either click on a company to view their "Product Information" and "Company Profile", or you can "Filter The List" by entering the specifications that are important to you.
- To "Filter The List", click on any of the Product Specifications in the yellow box on the left side of the page. You can enter as many or as few criteria as are necessary. After entering specifications, click the "Update Results" box and the list of companies will be updated, removing those that do not have products in the GlobalSpec database matching your specifications.
- Once you have sufficiently narrowed the company list, you can simply select each company in the list, by clicking the "Select" box to the left of their name, and send them a universal Email about your needs, or you can visit each company by clicking on them, and compare and select individual products.
- If you click through to a given company, you will be provided with a detailed listing of all of the products they make, which meet your specifications. The table will provide a yellow highlight displaying all of the criteria, which you selected. The rest of the specifications on this page can help you find the exact product you need.
- When you find the exact product you need, simply click the "Request for Quotation" or "Send an Email" links to contact the supplier about it.
Tips on Finding Services

Finding A Company by Name
- If you are looking for a specific company, simply enter the name in the "Find Box" at the top of any page on the site, and limit your search to "A Company by Name" using the dropdown menu located next to the "Find Box". You will be provided with an alphabetical list of companies that match all of the words that you entered.
- If you are not sure of the exact name of the company, simply enter part of it. You will be provided with a list of companies that match the letters you entered first, followed by an alphabetical list of all the companies that have the letter combination you entered in their name.

Supplier Sites
- You can search all Engineering related supplier sites, not just those with digital catalogs on GlobalSpec. This includes both OEMs, distributors and service providers.
Application Notes
- An Application Note is a document describing the use or implementation of a product. It may list detailed design specifications, as well as data describing how the product functions in different situations, GlobalSpec has captured some 50,000+ engineering related Application Notes.
- We use an automatic text classification system to identify candidate Application Notes. All of the sites on the Engineering Web are examined to find matching documents.
Material Properties
- This free search helps you find material property information for industrial materials, including many sub-categories of thermoplastics, polymers, superalloys, ferrous and nonferrous metals, pure metallic elements, and ceramics. Through this search you can find attributes such as flexural modulus, flexural strength, hardness, density, deflection temperature, electrical resistivity, conductivity, heat capacity, etc., for any given material.
- The GlobalSpec search engine retrieves material property Web pages from the hidden Web. This content has been aggregated by crawling proprietary material property databases and other sources.
Patents
- Quickly find patent documents on a topic by author, or by number. Details on patents are available online, and all documents are available for purchase from the respective content providers.

Standards
- Standards are an acknowledged measure of comparison for quantitative or qualitative value.
- Through our partnership with IHS, GlobalSpec users gain access to the world's largest file of active and historical standards, specifications, drawings, handbooks and related technical documents.
- Users can access mission-critical industry standards and military/federal specifications needed for research and design, purchasing, bidding, logistics and related applications.
Product Announcements
- If you're looking for the latest products from your favorite supplier, or just want to see what's new, then check our Product Announcements. You can search for a particular product or company by entering their name in the "Search Product Announcements" box and clicking "Find".
- You can also scroll to the bottom of the page to view the latest Product Announcements classified according to Product Category.

Registration and Privacy
GlobalSpec has one primary goal: to deliver what the engineering community needs to be more productive in their jobs; and we're proud to offer this as a free service to engineers and technical professionals. We do ask that you provide us with some basic business information before getting more technical information about a supplier's products and services in order to demonstrate site effectiveness to suppliers represented on GlobalSpec. We understand the reluctance users have about providing personal information - we share the same concern - so we have instituted the following PRIVACY POLICY to address this issue:
GLOBALSPEC PRIVACY POLICY
1. Except as set forth herein, your contact information (name, phone number, and e-mail address) will not be shared with anyone other than the suppliers from whom you have asked for contact information (including, but not limited to, phone/fax, Web site, or E-mail), or product information (including, but not limited to, specifications or RFQs). Strategic partners provide some of the services offered on GlobalSpec. Some of these services require additional registration. When this occurs, GlobalSpec will transfer your registration information to the relevant service provider. You will always have the ability to accept or decline the transfer of that information.
2. Profile information (search activity, end-user company information, etc.) may be used to generate aggregate reports and market research.
3. All personal data has been entered solely by respective end-users.
4. GlobalSpec mail communications are only accessible by designated recipients, except GlobalSpec, Inc. personnel involved in maintenance of the site may have access to e-mail communications.
5. You can modify your user information by visiting www.globalspec.com/myglobalspec and clicking on Edit My Profile.
6. You may have your personal information removed from the system by contacting webmaster@globalspec.com.
7. GlobalSpec, Inc., will not sell lists of its users and/or contact information to any third party without having first elicited individual permission from included end-users to do so.
8. GlobalSpec may transfer your contact information to a purchaser of the entire business, and/or it may be shared with any companies that merge with GlobalSpec or that GlobalSpec purchases.
