Device

   Device
   Your choices are...

   Passive Heat Sink

Heat sinks are thermally conductive, usually metallic components that are attached to electronic devices in order to absorb and dissipate the heat generated by the electronics. Surface area maximization and thermal conductance are important considerations in heat sink design. A wide variety of cooling fin configurations and geometries are used.

   Active Heat Sink

Active heat sinks (CPU coolers, fan sinks) are heat sinks that include an integrated fan. Fan airflow geometry and heat sink fin direction are designed together. Sometimes, active heat sinks are designed for specific processors or overclocking parameters.

   Liquid Cooler

Liquid coolers use a liquid medium such as water or liquid nitrogen to remove heat from components.

   Thermo-Electric Cooler

Thermo-electric coolers use an electric element to pump heat from the element’s hot side to its cool side. In turn, these devices transfer heat from the component to the environment.

   Vapor Cooler

Vapor coolers or phase change coolers are similar to air conditioning or refrigeration systems, but evaporate a refrigerant in a small block mounted directly on the component.

   Other

Other proprietary, specialized or unlisted devices.

Footprint and Type

   Length

The length is the footprint's longer dimension.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Width

The width is the footprint's shorter dimension.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Height

The height or depth includes all mounting features and, in the case of active heat sinks, the integral fan.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Weight:

This is the full weight of the heat sink assembly.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Heat Sink Fin Style
   Your choices are...

   Round Pin

Round pins are cooling fins that extend from the base. This fin style offers a high surface area to weight ratio and provides multiple airflow paths through the fins.

   Elliptical Fin

Elliptical fins are similar to pins and shaped elliptically to provide good airflow characteristics.

   Straight Fin

Straight fins typically extend across the length of the heat sink. This very common and versatile design uses extrusion to produce fins. Extrusion shapes can be very complex in order to maximize the heat dissipation surface area.

   Stamped Metal

Stamped metal heat sinks are manufactured in standard configurations, and according to application-specific geometry and thickness requirements.

   Machined Plate

Machined plate heat sinks conform to exact tolerances and are free of burrs and other irregularities.

   Other

Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary heat sink fin style.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
   Mounting
   Your choices are...

   Mounting Legs

Integral mounting legs usually have standard hole spacing and provisions for offsets and clearance.

   Mounting Holes

Heat sinks attach to components through mounting holes such as through-holes and threaded holes.

   Adhesive / Tape

Heat sinks are mounted with engineered tapes and adhesives that have a high thermal conductance. This eliminates the need for mounting holes and hardware.

   Clips

Mounting clips are used to attach heat sinks directly to electronic components such as processors.

   Socket Mount

Heat sinks mounted directly in PC sockets.

   Other

     Other unlisted mounting configurations.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
Specifications

   Thermal Resistance

Thermal resistance or thermal sensitivity, the central performance specification for heat sinks, is typically expressed in Celsius (°C) as the temperature increase per watt of heat handled. For catalog and comparison ratings, thermal resistance is a nominal specification. Factors that affect this specification include increased airflow, water-cooling, and ambient temperatures. Frequently, thermal resistance is presented as a performance curve.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Material
   Your choices are...

   Aluminum

Aluminum is a very common heat sink material. It has good thermal conductance and is easily extruded, stamped, and machined, with low weight and good finish characteristics.

   Copper

Copper, an excellent thermal conductor with good mechanical properties, is used in premium heat dissipation products.

   Steel

Steel has very good thermal conductivity and is heavier than other heat sink materials. This category includes all grades of steel and stainless steel.

   Mixed Material

Mixed materials combine components such as copper plates and aluminum fins. Often, mixed materials are used to optimize the combination of performance and cost.

   Other Materials

Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary heat sink materials.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
