Backlight
Devices use a lamp behind the display instead of reflected light.
| |
Your choices are...
| |
Electro Luminescent (EL)
Devices with electro luminescent (EL) backlights are usable in all lighting conditions. EL lamps produce a cool glow powered by a high voltage, high frequency AC from a DC-AC inverter.
| |
Light Emitting Diode (LED)
Devices with light emitting diode (LED) backlights are usable in all lighting conditions.
| |
Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL)
Devices with fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlights are not suitable for high ambient light conditions.
| |
None
Not usable in ambient light conditions.

LCD Type
The LCD type defines display attributes such as character, background color, and character to background contrast.

Your choices are...
| |
Twisted Nematic (TN)
Twisted nematic (TN) is the most basic type of LCD display. It is also the least expensive. TN devices produce black characters on a gray background. They also provide the smallest viewing angle.
| |
Super Twisted Nematic (STN)
Super twisted nematic (STN) displays feature up to a 270ยบ rotation. This extra rotation gives the crystal a much steeper voltage-brightness response curve and widens the angle at which the display can be viewed before losing much contrast. Yellow indicates a yellow-green background with dark blue pixels. Gray indicates a light gray background with dark gray pixels. Blue is also available.
| |
Film Compensated Super Twisted Nematic (FSTN)
Film compensated super twisted nematic (FSTN) devices are high-end LCD displays that provide excellent contrast. They produce black characters on a white background and a good viewing angle. Typically, this technology is available only with larger graphic modules.
| |
Thin Film Transistor (TFT)
Thin film transistor (TFT) devices are screens for flat panel displays (FPD) in which each pixel that forms the image is driven by one or more transistors (up to four). TFT technology provides the best resolution for this type of display.

Built-in Controller?
An on-board dedicated microcontroller acts as an interface between the CPU and the row and column drivers. The controller generates characters, refreshes the display, etc.
