About Tooling Plates and Columns
Tooling plates and tooling columns provide mounting or clamping surfaces for holding and positioning vises, clamps and workpieces during setup, manufacturing and dimensional inspection. A tooling plate consists of columns with threaded holes and unthreaded holes. There are many types of tooling and workholding parts. Examples include an adapter plate, mounting plate, aluminum tooling plate, angle plate, workholding clamp, and a workholding fixture. An adapter plate is designed to attach a touch panel into a cabinet cutout. A mounting plate fits onto a device and is secured by three screwsets that are located in the mounting plate 120° apart. An aluminum tooling plate provides a flat plate surface of moderate strength and it remains stable during machining. An angle plate is made of a high quality material such as iron and is used as a workholding fixture in metalworking. A workholding clamp is used in light pressure clamping in fixturing applications. A workholding fixture is a tool used to safely and accurately position the work hold pieces during a production process. Other tooling plates and tooling columns are commonly available.
