About Dowel Pins
Dowel pins are headless, spiral, grooved or fluted fasteners that are used to secure two items together. They are available in English and metric sizes, and carry specifications such as length, diameter or size, and materials of construction. Most dowel pins are made of plastic, stainless steel, hardened steel, or ground steel. Plastic dowel pins are made of thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers with high molecular weight. Stainless steel products are chemical and corrosion resistant, and have relatively high pressure ratings. Hardened and ground carbon-steel dowel pins are also available. Although they are very hard, these industrial pins cannot absorb a great deal of shock or impact without breaking.
