About Web Sensing and Scanning Systems

Web sensing and scanning systems are used for web or other flat-sheet production processes. Web sensing and scanning systems can employ a variety of sensors that scan across a moving web to detect defects and measure parameters such as product basis weight, thickness and moisture. Web sensing and scanning systems use tension sensors which employ a transducer to measure static or running tension in webs or sheets during textile manufacturing, paper manufacturing, and other sheet materials. There are many different uses for web sensing and scanning systems. Examples include measuring change in electrical resistance during paper production and textile production. Paper production involves a process of separating cellulose fibers from impurities in wood or used papers and then manufactures paper by a series of steps. Textile production involves the production of wool, cotton, linen and thread by the process of spinning, knitting, and weaving. A web handling system uses a synchronized dual stepper motor to control and to provide quiet, reliable, high speed operation along with constantly compensating small variations in the product. Other web sensing and scanning systems are commonly available.
