Vector network analyzers are instruments that measure the complex transmission and reflection characteristics of two-port devices in the frequency domain. Network administrators use a vector network analyzer to ensure that signals are transmitted across a network with only minimal distortion. Vector network analyzers are designed to measure both the magnitude and phase of waveforms in either a linear or non-linear network; however, most vector networks use linear signal components. Typically, a vector network analyzer uses a tuned-receiver architecture that is sensitive to a broader dynamic signal range. The use of tuned receivers provides the added advantage of implementing sampler-based analyzers to work on a wide frequency range.
